I would try to just help people out in the community, kind of like just helping the people in the dunes from the flood, or Joplin Missouri or new Orleans by cleaning up. While it probably would have a greater impact on people if you did something in the community, because they know you, if you went to Joplin, or new Orleans the people there might be like, wow this guy came all the way down here to help out.
